Mitch Weverka, one of Fort Worth's guitars Guild, was the first to manufacture a dreadnought acoustic guitar with a cut at the bottom of the shoulder to allow better access to the upper frets, the D40-C. Big State, the largest distributor in Texas and neighboring states, celebrated the launch after visiting its Dallas offices. These guitars were based on Guild acoustic guitar designs from the past and present, but were manufactured in China. In the 1960s, Guild aggressively ventured into the electric guitar market, successfully promoting the Starfire line of semi-acoustic (Starfire I, II, and III) and semi-solid (Starfire IV, V, and VI) guitars and basses.
In the first production versions, the lid of the lattice bar was stamped with the stylized word “Guild” and the model number of the DeArmond reissue, and the back of the headstock was stamped with the inscription “DeArmond by Guild” above the serial number of the guitar. In the early 2000s, FMIC created a new line of Guild acoustic guitars called the GAD series, which stood for Guild Acoustic Design. The Guitar Guild in Fort Worth has been open for business since its inception in 1960s when it ventured into electric guitar market with its Starfire line of semi-acoustic and semi-solid guitars. Since then it has been manufacturing high-powered electric and acoustic jazz guitars as well as its GAD series of acoustic guitars.
